Bespoke restorations in Newbury: where function meets form
E.max crowns and bridges for the most natural-looking results
Crowns and bridges traditionally have a tell-tale dark metal strip that is visible at the gum line. But with modern E.max restorations in Newbury, all that has changed. Made from durable, fracture-resistant zirconium oxide ceramic, E.max crowns and bridges allow us to restore broken or decayed teeth to full function, with completely natural-looking results. E.max crowns and bridges can be colour-matched to your exact specifications, and are custom made in a dental lab using your dental impressions. Because they mimic the translucency of real teeth and are completely metal-free, they blend seamlessly with your natural teeth – so they don’t look ‘false’. They are ideal for patients with tooth damage or decay that is too severe for a filling, yet not bad enough to require an extraction. Ask us about superior E.max crowns at your next consultation.
White fillings and composite bonding in Newbury
White fillings, also known as composite fillings, are ideal for treating small cavities. The composite material we use has a putty-like consistency, which can be moulded to fit your cavity, requiring less of the natural tooth to be removed – unlike the traditional ‘drill and fill’ approach of amalgam fillings. Once the composite material has been applied, it is cured and fixed permanently in place. Composite can be used retrospectively, transforming a ‘shadowed smile’ by replacing old metal fillings with white ones. It’s also ideal for addressing minor imperfections on the front teeth, such as chips, cracks and small gaps – a cost-effective alternative to a custom restoration or veneer.
Inlays & onlays in Newbury
At Westbrook House Dental Surgery, we may recommend an inlay or onlay in cases where fillings are no longer possible, but the condition of the tooth isn’t bad enough to require a crown. Custom-made in a dental lab, an inlay is placed within the biting surface of the tooth, whereas an onlay can cover a larger area. As well as being particularly useful in the treatment of tooth decay, inlays and onlays can help to reduce tooth sensitivity and further tooth loss. Inlays and onlays are popular because more of the tooth is maintained than with a traditional filling – and because of the quality of the materials used, they can also significantly strengthen a problem tooth
FAQs
How is a crown or bridge fitted?
Before your custom crown or bridge is made at the lab, your dentist will prepare your tooth by filing it down into a smooth shape that will accommodate the restoration. Dental impressions will then be taken and sent to the lab where your restoration will be made. When it is ready, you’ll return to the dentist to have your crown or bridge cemented in place and cured under a special light.
How long will my crown or bridge last for?
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, your restoration could last as long as 20 years.
What is the difference between fillings, inlays and onlays?
Fillings, inlays and onlays are all used to combat early signs of tooth decay. While a white filling is made from a composite resin material that can be moulded to fill a cavity, inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations that are bonded over the top of the existing tooth. An inlay is placed inside the edges of the tooth, while an onlay sits over the top of the tooth.
What is the difference between inlays/onlays and crowns?
Because inlays and onlays are designed to treat the earlier stages of tooth decay, you don’t have to undergo the preparation treatment required with a crown.
